England crowned Tri-Nations Champions

England have been crowned champions of the 4th Inas Tri-Nations Tournament at the De Beers Diamond Oval in South Africa.

The victory came after England had gone unbeaten throughout the 40-over tournament dominating reigning champions Australia and defeating South Africa twice each, before holding their nerve to claim a 19-run victory over South Africa in the final today.

England Learning Disabilities coach Derek Morgan expects his team to compete with Inas Tri-series holders Australia

England Learning Disabilities coach Derek Morgan expects his team to compete with Inas Tri-series holders Australia which is currently taking place in South Africa.

Australia have won all three tournaments since the first was held in 2005 but Morgan is hopeful England can break that monopoly.

Medal success in Parapan American Games

17th November 2011

The men’s 1,500m T20 event was won by a Venezuelan one-two with Rene Rafael Norono Verdejo (4:25.89) taking gold ahead of teammate Jovito Gutierrez (4:29.92). Bronze went to USA’s Nigel Murray (4:33.40)

Leslie Mendoza (9.70m) has claimed gold for Mexico in the women’s Shot Put F20 by just 7cm ahead of Venezuela’s Eddy Guerrero (9.61m).

4th Inas Tri-Nations Cricket Tournament gets underway

South Africa plays host to the 4th Inas Tri Nations Cricket Tournament in Kimberley, Northern Cape from 14-27 November 2011.  The De Beers Diamond Oval will be used as the venue for the opening game and the final.  The three participating countries are South Africa, Australia and England.

It is a huge honour for Griqua Cricket to host this prestigious  tournament in Kimberley – the “city that sparkles” – with the organisers previously hosting the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2003


 

Parapan American Games Opening Ceremony Lights Up Guadalajara

The 2011 Parapan American Games are now officially open after a stunning Opening Ceremony at the Telmex Athletics Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico on Saturday (12 November) evening.
Around 1,500 athletes from the 24 competing countries attended the Ceremony together with dignitaries including International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Sir Philip Craven.
The Opening Ceremony was a celebration of the rich cultural history of Guadalajara and Jalisco, and also included a rock and pop concert featuring contemporary music. Three speeches marked the Opening of the Games and were delivered by Imelda Guzman, the President of the Organizing Committee for the Parapan Games, Americas Paralympic Committee (APC) President Octavio Londoño and Mexico’s Federal Director of Sports, Bernardo de la Garza, who had the honour of declaring the Games open.
The 2011 Parapan American Games is the last multi-sport event before the London 2012 Paralympic Games and will feature 13 sports. Fir the first time, para-athletes with an intellectual disability will compete at the Games.
Competitions gets underway in seven sports on Sunday when there will be 15 gold medals contested.
